I’ve recently completed my Ocean Literacy certification with Blue Alchemy Academy — and it’s been such a grounding and expansive experience.
The course deepened my understanding of how the Ocean regulates climate, produces oxygen, supports biodiversity, and connects every one of us — whether we live by the coast or far inland. Ocean literacy isn’t just about facts and figures; it’s about recognising that the Ocean influences us daily, and that our choices, in turn, influence the Ocean.
What I loved most about the programme was how it wove science, systems thinking, and personal reflection together. It explored themes like ocean equity, regenerative blue economies, nature-based solutions, and the rights of the Ocean — not as abstract concepts, but as practical frameworks for action. It challenged me to think about my own impact, both personally and professionally, and where my leverage points for change really sit.
The Ocean has always been a source of inspiration and symbolism in my practice — tides, depth, flow, resilience — but now that relationship feels more informed and intentional.
Ocean literacy has strengthened my commitment to working in ways that are regenerative, respectful, and connected. It’s reminded me that advocacy doesn’t always have to be loud; it can also be woven gently through storytelling, creativity, and community.
I’m proud to now be Ocean Literacy certified — and even more committed to continuing the learning, the listening, and the action.
